History of the Zootechnical Faculty

The faculty was founded in 1951 on the basis of three chairs: Private Zootechny, Veterinary Medicine and Breeding and Feeding Livestock. It is one of the largest at the University. After numerous changes the faculty includes the following chair: Private Zootechny, Genetics and Breeding Livestock, Mechanisation and Elektrification of Livestock Breeding, Livestock Feeding.

All the chairs are located in 10 Academicheskaya Street which takes its name from the first Academy of Medicine founded in Grodno.

The academic staff of the faculty numbers 34 people including those having scientific degrees such as 7 Doctors of Sciences a correspondent member of AS of RB, 5 professors, 15 assistant professors.

The faculty offers fundamental high quality teaching integrating studies and research. It provides various facilities: the computer class, scientific equipment, experimental branches.

Great contribution to the Faculty's modern image was made by many people. Among them are professors Cheredkov V.N., Zamiatin N.M., Melehin G.P., Plashchenko S.I., Koval M.P., Vasiliuk Ja. V., Ghilman Z.D., assistant professors Ghisatulin G.G., Yeliseyev I.G., Martinchik V.V., Bugakov A.V., Baranov N.N., Borisov V.N., Buben D.M., Ponizova N.L., Anisko Ye.N., Karpov N.A., Kuzemkin V.G., Pavlenia V.P. and others.

The Faculty's graduates hold various administrative posts in agriculture.

More than 8.000 stock breeding engineers graduated from the University.

The Faculty trains specialists for the following specialities:

Speciality 1 - 74 03 01 - "Zootechny" (full time course - 4 years 8 months, integrated system course "technical school-university" - 2 years 10 months)

Qualification - stock-breeding engineers

Speciality 1 - 49 01 02 "Technology for storage and processing animal products"

Course of tuition - 5 years. Qualification - technologist. The speciality has 2 divisions.

Speciality 1 - 49 01 02 02 - Technology for milk and milk produce;

Speciality 1 - 49 01 02 01 - Technology for meat and meat produce.

An important integral part of the course is the training practice in the best farms of Belarus: 50% of the faculty students have practice abroad (England, the USA, Germany, Poland, Switzerland)

After graduating from the University those wishing to continue their education have the opportunity to take the post graduate course in physiology< private zootechny and technology for producing animal produce; feeding livestock and feeding technology; breeding, selection, genetics and reproduction of farm animals. Besides the University offers postgraduate Master degree and Doctor degree courses at Warsaw Agrarian University.

There is Dissertation Council for those submitting their thesis for a degree in "Private zootechny and technology for producing animal produce" and "Feeding livestock and feeding technology".

International Cooperation

The Faculty has multilateral links in the sphere of education, research with all agricultural institutes and educational establishments of Belarus, as well as abroad. Among them are the agrarian universities in Moscow and Kiev, Warsaw, Leipzig, agricultural academies in Lvov and Lithuania, Lublin. Bydgoshtch, Krakov, Olshtyn, Wroclaw, the Swedish University of Agricultural research in Uppsala.

The Faculty's academic staff are engaged in research work, thus contributing to efficient development of livestock breeding.
